YouTube Creators Can Charge for Chats

With live streams being a popular way for internet stars to communicate with fans, YouTube has announced a new way to monetize them. If the comment eventually gets pushed off, creators will be able to click through Super Chats at the top of their chat window to see them all.

YouTube is rolling out a new feature that is meant to help creators make money from their live streams while also giving them a way to connect with their most avid fans, ones that are willing to pay to be heard. For a small fee, the new feature allows followers to raise their voice just an octave higher than the rest, highlighting their comment and pinning it to the top of the chat for up to five hours.

YouTube users will no longer be able to donate to creators as the Fan Funding feature that YouTube now still offers will be shut down and removed from YouTube at the end of next month.

At the moment, Super Chats can only be purchased in YouTube or YouTube Gaming on the web or through Android, with iOS not now supported.
