Meijer recall on deli cheese

Sargento, maker of fine prepackaged cheese, is recalling seven of its products due to a potential listeria contamination at the facilities of its cheese supplier Deutsch Kase Haus.

Listeriosis is a serious infection that's usually caused by eating contaminated food and can be particularly risky for pregnant women and older people.

Sargento is recalling some of its cheese products because of potential contamination. However, even healthy consumers can experience symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarhhea. There have been no known illnesses reported to Meijer from the product affected by this recall. In pregnant women, listeriosis can result in miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or even a life-threatening infection in the newborn. Consumers can also call Sargento Consumer Affairs at 1-800-243-3737 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

One of the largest cheesemakers in the United States is recalling several of its products over fears of listeria contamination. The company urges anyone who may have the cheese in their refrigerator to go online and check the package's UPC code to see if it is affected by the recall.

The recalled products are in plastic deli packaging with printed labels that have the UPCs 215927xxxxxx or 215938xxxxxx.

Customers should stop using the product and either dispose of it or return it to the customer service desk at any Meijer store for a full refund.
