'A Day Without Immigrants' Protest Underway in Los Angeles

The strike is in defiance of President Donald Trump's immigration order temporarily banning travel to the U.S. by refugees and by most people from seven majority-Muslim countries.

Among those participating in the strike action is Spanish-born celebrity chef Jose Andres. The strike is in response to President Trump's promise to crack down on those living in the country illegally, primarily through "extreme vetting".

In the Bronx, immigrant workers at the Hunts Point Terminal Market, which supplies fresh food to much of New York City's supermarkets and restaurants, observed the strike as well, rallying outside the market in the predawn hours chanting, "Respect, respect".
