Don't Panic… Snapchat Spectacles are now Available Online

Snap Inc. made a decision to change its marketing strategy with the Spectacles to improve its sales. Over on their site, Snapchat Spectacles have become available for purchase at $129.99.

Last year, we covered a goofy new gadget from Snapchat. The listing marks the first time the brightly-coloured wearables have been available through means other than pop-up stores or roaming "Snapbot" vendors. Meanwhile, the company's new countdown on the Spectacles website is a little bit different from the rest, hinting it's something big. People often stood in line for more than an hour to grab a pair of Spectacles, which sold out quickly.

Snap Inc. had been planning on making this move for quite some time and it even mentioned the plan in its IPO statements that it will "significantly broaden the distribution of Spectacles". The filing further stated: "We expect to experience production and operating costs related to Spectacles that will exceed the related revenue in the near future". When synced with the Snapchat mobile app, users can tap a button on Spectacles to begin recording a ten-second video, which is saved in the "Memories" section of the app and can be revisited and posted to their Story.

Snap has answered the prayers of social media addicts by putting its ultra-rare Snapchat Spectacles up for sale in the U.S. via the company's official store. Techcrunch notes Spectacles were only sold via special Snapbot dispensers in its NY pop store and certain surprise locations in the United States in the last three months.
