Banksy latest Palestine venture? The 'Walled Off Hotel' in Bethlehem

The infamous reclusive artist has launched his new venture, a hotel called the Walled Off.

Titled The Walled Off Hotel, the nine-bedroom building based in Bethlehem is staffed by local people - none of whom knew Banksy was the one setting up the hotel - and aims to bring tourists to the destination.

Images are beginning to circulate across the internet, and the hotel is reportedly opening for bookings at the end of the month.

The hotel will officially open March 11.

The artist claimed it was the "hotel with the worst view in the world". The hotel has direct views of the West Bank separation barrier, which was erected by Israel in what Israeli authorities said was an effort protect itself from Palestinian attackers. They hope the extra incentive of having the hotel serve as a museum of Banksy's work will make them visit Palestinian towns more often.

Housed in a former pottery workshop, the hotel sets a dystopic colonial theme, with luxurious, if bullet-scarred, fixtures.

It is thought he drew four street murals in Gaza previous year, including one of the Greek godness Niobe crouching against rubble. They included a ladder reaching over the wall, a young girl being carried over it by balloons and a window on the gray concrete showing handsome mountains in the background. In 2007, he painted a number of artworks in Bethlehem, including a young girl frisking an Israeli soldier pinned up against a wall.

The elusive British artist Banksy is back with a brand new project which just opened its door on the streets of Bethlehem in Palestine.

"Israelis are banned from visiting Bethlehem and its famous sites", The Guardian notes. The property is located along the barrier that separates Israel from the Palestinian territories.
