Cavaliers agree to sign Larry Sanders for the rest of the season

Free agent forward/center Larry Sanders has agreed to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers, per The Vertical's Shams Charania. 7-0 center Andrew Bogut was signed last week, but broke his tibia in the first minute that he played.

In his last National Basketball Association season, Sanders averaged 7.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. "I've had to make the hard decision to follow my intuition, and allow myself the space and time to explore my true objective in life", Sanders wrote while announcing his retirement in a piece for "The Players' Tribune". Sanders is taking his physical and once it's completed, he will sign for the remainder of the season, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not announced any roster moves.

Cavs star LeBron James told reporters Saturday he was in favor of the team signing Sanders. In his career, he has had a history with injuries and with off-the-court issues, including violating the league's drug policy on four different occasions with the use of marijuana. Head coach Tyronn Lue will look to Sanders to provide rim protection and to collect rebounds on both ends of the floor. His best year was in 2012-13, when he averaged 9.8 points and 9.5 rebounds. The Cavs are hopeful Sanders can give them that type of boost down the road.

In an interview with The Players' Tribune, he revealed that he was battling depression and anxiety at that time and sought help from doctors at Rogers Memorial Hospital. "Why not?
