Trump to host Chinese president at Mar-a-Lago

US President Donald Trump plans to receive his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping this April at his Mar-a-Lago hotel complex in Florida, media reports said on Monday.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is expected to finalize plans for the summit with Chinese officials as he arrives in Beijing this week, the official added.

Axios, which first broke the news, cited officials familiar with the planning as saying that the summit will be a "working session" with no golfing planned.

Trump in February promised Jinping that the United States will uphold the "One China" policy, which establishes that Beijing is the only formal government of China and that the US will not have formal relations with Taiwan. While Trump had previously signaled he would not necessarily support a "One China" policy, he backed off that position in a recent phone call with Xi. The summit is meant to diffuse tensions between the two countries on a number of geopolitical and economic issues.

Two key issues will be trade relations and the North Korean threat.

Trump has so far held back, though, on that front.

The two presidents will also likely discuss territorial disputes in the South China Sea, said CNN.

The summit is the first face- to-face meeting between the two leaders of the world's biggest economies. That meeting was the second between Trump and Abe, who first met privately at Trump Tower during the transition.
